I spent part of this weekend trying to get my garden ready to plant (Mother Nature didn't really cooperate), and guess what. The rhubarb was ready to harvest. I had a fair amount, so I busted out my Grandma's recipe for Rhubarb Sauce.
2 1/2 cups of rhubarb sliced into 1/2" pieces
1/4 cup of water
1/3 cup of sugar
1 tsp lemon zest
1/8 tsp nutmeg
Combine the water and sugar in a medium saucepan
Bring to a boil
Add the sliced rhubarb and bring to a boil again
Simmer for about 10 minutes until the rhubarb is soft and saucy
Remove from the heat
Stir in the lemon zest and nutmeg
Stir well
Cover and chill
So good! Just the right mix of tangy and sweet.
